The initiative began when we saw the need to stop teenage pregnancies which had risen due to closure of schools with the COVID-19 pandemic. Mrs. Deborah Mutai who is currently acting as the director of compassion spearheaded the initiative and formed a committee to brainstorm together on what needs to be done so the church can actively advocate against teenage pregnancies in our communities.

We therefore identified that the biggest challenge girls experienced while they were at home was lack of the necessities like the sanitary towels due to lack of money to access them monthly. So, we decided to start the mentorship program and by the grace of God, we partnered with the LEAST OF THESE organization under WGM who agreed to support us by donating the reusable sanitary kits through their friends from the USA. We want to specifically thank BE THE LIGHT MINISTRY through our sister Stacy Eubanks for offering her time to come to Kenya with ready-made reusable sanitary kits, training materials and for giving us the instructions of how to sew them locally. We are greatly indebted for her generosity and her love for adolescent girls.

On October 2020, we visited two stations Angata Bargoi and Magadi mission field where we ministered to around 70 girls in Total. We basically taught them on female hygiene (how to use the kits) and life skills (how to survive the challenges of life with a visionary mind). Our aim is to keep their contacts and follow up on them on a regular basis to ensure that at least none of them drops out of school. The program is still under its initial stages and we trust God to see many girls get empowered by God fearing mentors who will walk faithfully with them throughout their adolescent journey.
